Empowering education for the unprivileged by connecting communities across the world to foster equitable access to quality education.
Our Story
The word Vidya (विद्या) originates from the Sanskrit root 'Vid,' meaning "to be aware of" or "to know." At its core, Vidya embodies the pursuit of knowledge or deeper understanding. In the context of the Vidya project, the name itself symbolizes a commitment to ensuring that every child, especially those in poverty, have the opportunity to pursue knowledge and education. In essence, our goal is to give back to society by striving to create meaningful opportunities for the underprivileged and uneducated. We are dedicated to doing our best to bridge the gap, providing resources and support where they are needed most, and empowering education to pave the way for a society filled with educated and independent youth. The ideals of the Vidya Foundation are deeply personal for its founders, rooted in the legacy of their great-grandmother, Vidya. She was an incredibly strong and independent woman who, despite never having had an education herself, was determined to ensure her children and grandchildren were educated. Even after losing her husband early in her life, she remained resilient, always pushing forward and inspiring her family to be independent and hardworking. The foundation's name, Vidya, is a tribute to the lasting influence of her strength and vision. Today, as her great-grandchildren and founders of the Vidya Foundation, we aim to honor her name and legacy. We are deeply grateful for the steps she took to ensure our parents, and eventually us, received an education. Now, armed with the wisdom she passed down, we are committed to spreading her ideals by working to ensure that knowledge reaches those who are underprivileged.
